01Agree the immediate repair scope
Once repairs can proceed, ask which part of the damage the locksmith work will address. A lock replacement may be suitable while glazing or structural damage requires a separate trade. Tell us about any insurer instructions and identify the person authorised to agree the work. Do not assume that changing a cylinder repairs damage to its surrounding frame. A clear description helps establish the immediate task and any further work that needs planning.
02Consider keys and future access too
If keys were taken, lost or left unaccounted for, identify which doors they operate. This is a separate concern from repairing visible damage. Discuss the affected locks and how replacement keys will be provided. Where the property is rented or managed, involve the relevant contact in decisions about shared entrances. Keep the job scope, costs and any agreed follow-up clear, so you can distinguish completed locksmith work from repairs that remain outside that scope.
